Synopsis

Humanity seems lost, with no singular moves capable of correcting its course. Coldly observing the effects of humans fighting other humans, it—humanity—gradually loses its basic principles and moral compass, normalizing barbarity within the realm of everyday coexistence.

It drifts, suspended in time and space, much like steel beams defying gravity at random, seemingly held together by rusty rods. As humans succumb to temptation, they deteriorate with every passing moment; parts fall apart, pieces are lost in the void, and humanity itself deforms under the weight of hatred.

Humanity ruins itself when it turns its back on the true purpose of existence. Fear then infiltrates the very veins of comprehension, reaping honesty, goodness, mercy, and compassion. Love vanishes among the disbelieving, making way for terror.

Nearly two thousand years have passed since the greatest religious apocalypse on this planet—the imprisonment, judgment, torture, crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Yet, we still grope in the darkness, failing to truly understand what transpired in Jerusalem, Galilee, Nazareth, and Hebron.

Even today, the barriers imposed by political and economic power echo through time, contributing little—if anything—to the partitions that fragment daily life. Politics has perpetuated obstacles under the guise of simplification, wrapping lies in the illusion of truth. Religion, meanwhile, has numbed humanity to the point that man has lost faith in himself, choosing instead the fleeting pleasures of hedonism.

Since the inception of democracy, it has passed through feudal lords and endured the violent tragedies of the Middle Ages, including the Crusades, only to now arrive at an age of performative righteousness. This new behavioral status quo has done nothing but exacerbate suffering and loss, plunging humanity into an endless cycle of self−consumption. Each day, we witness the grim reality: millions starve while others wallow in excess, lost in the depths of extreme poverty.

To this day, we endure the pernicious influence of leaders devoid of love and compassion, who exercise power solely to serve their own interests. They ravage populations, disguising their self−serving motives with democratic façades, while in reality, they construct autocratic regimes that wound the very fabric of humanity.

Evil reveals itself through its enslavement of minds, embedding intellectual and social poverty into society. Despite their oppression, the masses unknowingly build the ladders that elevate the privileged—those who construct bridges not for unity, but to aid politicians in accumulating wealth that strengthens their bodies while impoverishing their souls.

With the apocalyptic catastrophe brought about by SARS−CoV−2, the world appears more bewildered than it has been for millennia, crying out for salvation. Meanwhile, the erosion of social and human relationships creates a void, one filled by crime and ignorance. Just as in ancient times, humanity confuses the fight for love with the wars waged for power, continuing its misguided march

João Calazans Filho

João Calazans Filho is one of the most significant voices in contemporary Brazilian and global literature. A writer, chronicler, and passionate advocate for the Portuguese language, his work has become a cornerstone of 21st-century Ibero-American literature. With 61 books published, translated into 14 languages, and distributed in over 160 countries, Calazans Filho has achieved a rare level of international recognition, standing as one of the most widely read and respected authors of our time.

Born in Salvador, Bahia, João Calazans Filho weaves into his writing the colors, rhythms, and silences of the Brazilian Northeast. Yet his journey has also been shaped by a diverse cultural path, with his first books written between São Paulo and Spain—spaces that deeply influenced his artistic vision and expanded his narrative scope. With powerful novels, poignant chronicles, and soul-stirring poetry, Calazans has created a body of work that bridges continents while always maintaining a profoundly human, critical, and sensitive voice.

His stories explore the complexities of everyday life, social conflict, spirituality, urban violence, and hope as an act of resistance. Through vivid characters and narratives that move between realism and the symbolic, his literature speaks to universal themes with richness, accessibility, and emotional depth. The result is writing that moves, challenges, and transforms.

Throughout his career, João Calazans Filho has also stood out for his cultural commitment. A tireless advocate for reading and emerging writers, he leads literary projects, fosters public debates, and promotes initiatives that highlight the value of Brazilian culture. His dedication to the Portuguese language has taken him to literary conferences, book fairs, and academic institutions across Brazil and abroad, reaffirming literature as a tool for both identity and freedom.

Returning to Spain at various points in his career—with novels that resonate across both Latin America and Europe—Calazans is today celebrated as a true Ibero-American author, acclaimed by readers and critics around the globe.

João Calazans Filho is, without a doubt, a leading figure in Brazilian and world literature. His work reflects not only the soul of a people, but also the spirit of an era. An era in which voices like his—bold, human, and honest—remind us that words, when born of struggle and heart, can cross oceans and endure forever.
